Since the pandemic, there has been a steady rise in the number of Mum’s choosing to take a chance and pursue their passion for content creation – to help supplement their income and to make meaningful connections with other like-minded creators within social communities.

In the recent “State of Mum Influencer Marketing” trends report, Mumpower discovered that Influencers are spending 30% more time than ever creating content. With more creators sharing content more often, how do content creators cut through the noise and stand out in this highly competitive industry?

We asked this very question to our Mumpower content creator and influencer network!

Top Tips to stand out to brands

  1. Reach out to brands directly – Interact with brands you love and make yourself seen
  2. Know your worth and strengths when it comes to deliverables and share ideas
  3. Find your niche and start there – your passion will shine through
  4. Do your research and put the effort in to get to know the brands you want to work with
  5. Interaction is key – Reply to all DMs from brands
  6. Always engage with accounts from brands you love

Top Tips when creating content 

  1. Be true to yourself and the brands YOU want to represent this allows your authenticity to shine
  2. Believe in yourself and the confidence will come through in your content
  3. Be consistent to show recent and frequent content to show commitment to your craft
  4. Be honest – it is so valuable to share what your favourite – and less favourite features are about brand, because it demonstrates transparency and builds trust
  5. Disclosing ads correctly is not only the law, but it builds trust with your audience
  6. Don’t take on too much – Don’t be scared to say no, especially if time pressures will impact the quality of your work
  7. Don’t sound like a sales pitch when you share content – think about how you would talk about this to your friend and go with that approach!
  8. Don’t compare yourself to others because there is only one you and that You is who brands are interested in
  9. Share stories of other businesses or creators, a simple repost helps you get seen
  10. Engage back. Don’t just sit back and take the engagement, give some back
  11. Know your audience and what they like
  12. Have fun with it
  13. Try new things – Stay on top of trends
  14. Use hashtags
  15. Don’t buy followers/likes
  16. Promote products that you would use personally
  17. Try and allocate a set uninterrupted time for it each day/week
  18. Make friends with other mum influencers/content creators – Don’t think of it as a competition. Build up your insta-mum community
  19. Support and engage with accounts similar to yours who you genuinely enjoy seeing content from
  20. Quality over quantity and great communication between brand and influencer
  21. Know what tools are available (eg. Temply, Canva etc) to make it easier
